Vein is a messaging app that runs on your own Vein server. This page explains what Vein does with your data, including the data it can reach when you connect a Google account.
Where your messages live
Your chats, email and settings are stored on your Vein server: a server you run yourself, or one Vein hosts for you. We do not sell your data, show you ads, or use your messages to train AI models.
Google account data
When you choose "Sign in with Google" to connect Gmail, Vein asks Google for access to your mail (the https://mail.google.com/ permission). Vein uses this access only to:
- show your email in your Vein inbox, and
- send, reply to, and organize email when you ask it to.
Your Google sign-in tokens are kept on your Vein server. Sign-in is completed through signin.vein.chat, which passes the one-time sign-in code to Google and the result back to your server. It does not store or log your tokens or your mail.
Vein's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Vein does not transfer Google user data to others except as needed to provide the features above, to comply with the law, or with your permission. No person reads your mail unless you ask us for help and give permission, or where the law requires it.
Removing access
You can disconnect your email in Vein at any time. Vein then deletes its stored Google tokens from your server, asks Google to revoke its access, and stops syncing. Mail already in your Vein inbox stays on your server until you delete it or remove your Vein account. You can also remove Vein's access from your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Notifications
Phone notifications pass through push.vein.chat. They carry only a message id and an unread count, never message text or names.
